Providers Trained to Treat Trauma

All providers listed on this page have advanced training and specialize in working with adults struggling with the effects that come from experiencing trauma. The trauma(s) may have occurred at any point in the individual’s life and may have occurred once or many times. Providers are cross trained to provide evidence based care to those who experienced trauma during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.  We also work with Birth Professionals who have incredibly high rates of PTSD and burnout.  There are three primary evidence based therapies used to treat trauma and PTSD:

  • EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a trauma-focused psychotherapy which is effective for treating trauma and PTSD. It is a short-term form of treatment that usually lasts 8-12 sessions. EMDR can help you process upsetting memories, thoughts, and feelings related to the trauma.

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy that is effective for treating trauma and reducing symptoms of PTSD. CPT is generally delivered over 12 sessions. CPT provides a way to understand why recovery from traumatic events is difficult and how symptoms of PTSD affect daily life. The focus is on identifying how traumatic experiences change thoughts and beliefs, and how thoughts influence current feelings and behaviors. An important part of the treatment is addressing ways of thinking that might keep individuals “stuck” and get in the way of recovery from symptoms of PTSD and other problems.

  • Prolonged Exposure Therapy
Prolonged Exposure (PE) consists of 8 -15 treatment sessions that are 60-90 minutes each. The therapy allows you to work through painful memories in a safe and supportive environment using imaginal exposure, a process that addresses the trauma memory in a way that reduces the intensity of the memory and allows patients to improve the quality of their life as a result.
